The story of Jose Sarria, an opera-singing drag performer turned politician, the first openly gay candidate for San Francisco City Supervisor. Sarria represented the archetypal hero, the Trickster or Fool — a champion who embodies a court jester to instigate social change. NELLY QUEEN tells Sarria's story through the eyes of Joseph Castel, a documentarian who counted Sarria as a friend and mentor.
