Presented as part of Cinematic Century: Milestones From 100 Years of Film

"[Bruce Dern] is grizzled, resigned, and wonderful, and so is the film."—Jason Bailey, Flavorwire

Nebraska is not only a remnant of a bygone era of American independent cinema, but also an essential chapter of FilmScene’s lore; one of the first films to play during our theater’s earliest days of operation, Nebraska tells the story of a cantankerous old man (Bruce Dern) making a trip to Lincoln, Nebraska to collect his winnings from a sweepstakes notice he received in the mail. While his winnings at first make him a local celebrity, he quickly becomes the target of predatory interest. A classic awards film, and an opportunity for long-time player Bruce Dern to receive his due as a performer, is a bright spot just before the franchising of American cinema completely subsumed the movies.
