In her second feature, director Céline Sciamma (Portrait of a Lady on Fire) tells the story of 10-year-old Laure, who moves to the suburbs and decides to pass as a boy named Mikael among the pack of neighborhood kids. Mikael catches the attention of leader of the pack Lisa, who becomes smitten. Laure/Mikael code-switches between being at home with their family and hanging out with their neighborhood pals and new girlfriend — all the while finding resourceful ways to navigate the summer in this astute and moving exploration of childhood gender nonconformity.
