"Adeptly evokes the unbearable dullness of being 18, the precarious power play of female friendship, the torpor born from having to decide what 'other plans' you should make if you're not going to go to college."—Leslie Felperin, Sight & Sound
"Here's a dark, deadpan comedy about alienated kids that manages to be smart, surpassingly odd, extremely funny and mysteriously endearing at the same time."—Joe Morgenstern, The Wall Street Journal
"One of the best portraits of teen anomie this side of Catcher in the Rye."—Marjorie Baumgarten, Austin Chronicle
While their classmates head for college, Enid (Thora Birch) and Rebecca (Scarlett Johansson) focus their energies on tormenting those around them - from a goofy convenience store clerk (Brad Renfro) to an eccentric art teacher (Illeanna Douglas). But when they zero in on an oddball record collector (Steve Buscemi) looking for Miss Right, their seemingly innocent meddling threatens to shatter one of their hearts, not to mention their lifelong friendship.
