"The most underrated of all Billy Wilder comedies and arguably the one that comes closest to the sweet mastery and lilting grace of his mentor, Ernst Lubitsch."—Jonathan Rosenbaum, Chicago Reader
"Gentle and touching satirical drama with Lemmon on form."—David Parkinson, Empire Magazine
Wendell Armbruster Jr. (Jack Lemmon) journeys to the Italian island of Ischia to claim the body of his millionaire father, who died while taking his annual vacation. As the dutiful son uncovers more about his dad's death, revelations are made, leading to Wendell's involvement with British beauty Pamela Piggott (Juliet Mills). In classic screwball fashion, their budding relationship starts off antagonistic but quickly turns as the two are brought together to solve a baffling mystery filled with colorful locals who find offbeat ways to thwart their progress every step of the way.
