BATTLE ROYALE

"Not a face value film, it leaves its audience questioning, reflecting, and debating its hauntingly resonant implications."—Mattie Lucas, From the Front Row

"Positively hums with youthful lust and rage."—Tim Brayton, Antagony & Ecstasy

"A teen melodrama gone feral as cliques fall apart under fire and young love is literally under the gun."—Sean Axmaker, Stream on Demand

A Y2K-Hole selection

In a near-future Japan, the Battle Royale Act has been initiated to curb Japan’s wave of rising juvenile delinquency. 42 delinquent 9th graders, believing they are on a class trip, are trapped in a school bus and taken to a remote island where they are primed on their objective: kill one another and be the last one standing. Initially, most students do not engage in combat – however, as time passes, the desire to survive at all costs and leave the island causes the rising tensions between students to come to a bloody head.

Y2K-Hole

Catch the Y2K bug at FilmScene! Y2K-hole is a celebration of some of the grimiest, most outrageous yellow-and-blue-tinted standalone sci-fi of the turn of the millennium. A generational sense of impending doom, fear of youth in revolt, and the tightening grip of technology on malleable young brains underscore these stylish, high-concept titles – so come on up to the roof to party like it’s the end of the world.
