"[Dirty Dancing] seems to dream itself, as it tells the story of a young girl who comes alive in the summer of 1963."—Chris Chase, New York Daily News

"One of the only films from this era that depicts a girl’s embracing her sexual desire and agency—without regret."—Michele Meek, Ms. Magazine

"Swayze and Grey were inspired casting choices, each fitting into their respective roles like a glove."—Allison Rose, FlickDirect

A Girls Will Be Girls selection

Baby (Jennifer Grey) is one listless summer away from the Peace Corps. Hoping to enjoy her youth while it lasts, she's disappointed when her summer plans deposit her at a sleepy resort in the Catskills with her parents. Her luck turns around, however, when the resort's dance instructor, Johnny (Patrick Swayze), enlists Baby as his new partner, and the two fall in love. Baby's father forbids her from seeing Johnny, but she's determined to help him perform the last big dance of the summer.

Girls Will Be Girls

Sweat out your hot girl summer on the roof, where we’ve got girls on film endeavoring on journeys of self-discovery, pursuing once-in-a-lifetime whirlwind romances, and dabbling in some light racketeering and violent crime. Come on up for stories about girls in all their multitudinous and messy glory – and perhaps the single most iconic use of a Britney Spears track ever on screen.
