“Every frame of Suzume is practically a work of art.”—Matt Schley, Japan Times
Unless otherwise noted, screenings are presented in Japanese with English subtitles
In the quiet town of Kyushu 17-year-old Suzume encounters a young man who tells her, “I’m looking for a door.” What she finds is a single weathered door standing upright in the midst of ruins as though it was shielded from whatever catastrophe struck. Seemingly drawn by its power, Suzume reaches for the knob causing a chain reaction of doors opening one after another all across Japan, unleashing destruction upon any who are near. She must close the portals to prevent imminent disaster.
