In 1969, Dr. Malcolm Sayer (Robin Williams), a New York City physician, works extensively with patients at a Bronx hospital who fell catatonic after being infected by encephalitis. Speculating that their rigidity may be akin to an extreme form of Parkinsonism, he seeks permission from his skeptical superiors to treat them with L-dopa, a drug that was used to treat Parkinson's disease at the time, in an effort to “awaken” the patients.
An initiative of the COOLIDGE CORNER THEATRE, with major support from the ALFRED P. SLOAN FOUNDATION.
*Empty seats will be filled 15 minutes prior to showtime. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early to ensure your seat. Your ticket is not a guarantee of admittance after this time.
