Peter Von Kant, a saturated, steamy anti-love story from François Ozon, reinterprets Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s film The Bitter Tears of Petra Von Kant and hybridizes the story with Fassbinder’s own tumultuous love life. Peter Von Kant (Denis Ménochet) is a prolific film director living in mid-’70s Cologne who possesses everything he desires except for that which is interminably out of reach – love. When he meets the youthful, bright-eyed Amir (Khalil Gharbia), Peter is instantly obsessed, fawning over the young star and offering him fame in exchange for reciprocated affections. Amir, consumed by his newfound celebrity, grows aloof and resistant to Peter’s advances, and Peter is left to reconcile with the incompatible nature of romance and capital.
