SANSÓN AND ME
A Refocus Film Festival Selection
How do you make a film about a person who isn't allowed to be filmed? Director Rodrigo Reyes seeks to do just that as he adapts his letters and conversations with Sansón, an undocumented Mexican immigrant who was sentenced to life in a California prison without parole, casting his family members for re-enactments of his personal history. This intimate journey for Sansón serves as an exploration of the prison system, the world of drug trafficking, and how the lives of two Mexican migrants can be so different and so similar all at once. Working together for over a decade, Rodgrigo and Sansón develop a friendship that allows Sansón to tell the stories that shaped him more freely. Incorporating some of his poetry and even an original song, paints a fuller picture of this young man's life in a beautiful film that pushes the boundaries of cinema.
