FilmScene Animation Camp was awarded Best Summer Camp (Best of the CRANDIC 2021)!

Tell your own animated stories with FilmScene! At Animation Camp, campers imagine and create their own animations, totally from scratch. Each day, campers learn the key principles of animation and explore the styles of 2D paper, 3D object, Pixilation, Claymation, and replacement animation and then apply these lessons by making their own videos!

Lead instructor Jarrod DeRooi and two assistants will introduce campers to the powerful Stop Motion Pro software, working hands-on with iPads and a wide range of materials from paper to clay.

Has your child already participated in Animation Camp?

CAMP DETAILS

Up to 20 campers per week-long session may register for in-person camp. Camp will be held at FilmScene on the Ped Mall, located at 118 E. College in Iowa City. All technology and supplies included for in-person camp. Each day includes stretching, snack breaks and games. Two snacks and individually-packed lunches from Bread Garden Market are provided.

Campers can share their work at our Friday “end of camp” showcase, with their work appearing on the big screen. Campers will also have access to their work through Flipgrid to share with friends, family and save for themselves.

The Instructor:

This will be Jarrod DeRooi’s 8th summer teaching for FilmScene.  His interest in stop motion started in his youth, his early animations and movies all filmed on his prized Sony Handycam.  He is overjoyed to get to share his love for stop motion with young artists.  Jarrod formerly worked for the Iowa City Community School District but now spends his time outside of camp writing, drawing and running a small organic farm.

Summer is Jarrod’s favorite time of year, and there is no place he would rather spend it than at Film Scene, working with the next generation of filmmakers!
