"Lubitsch demonstrates that romantic comedies, like popcorn, can be enjoyed salty as well as sweet." - Peter Bradshaw, Guardian

"This 1940 film is one of Ernst Lubitsch's finest and most enduring works, a romantic comedy of dazzling range." - Dave Kehr, Chicago Reader

Jimmy Stewart and Margaret Sullavan star in Ernst Lubitsch's Christmas classic. Alfred (Stewart) and Klara (Sullavan) work at Matuschek Company, a general store in Budapest. As the holiday season gets into full swing, their disgust for one another is hitting an all time high. But unbeknownst to the two of them, they have fallen in love even before they met as co-workers through anonymous love letters and both soon plan to be wed. The Lubitsch Touch is on full display in this witty romantic comedy, a film so timeless that it's been remade twice, mostly recently as You've Got Mail.
