Spookies (1986)

Directed by Eugenie Joseph (Mind Benders), Thomas Doran, Brendan Faulkner (Killer Dead)

A dilapidated mansion becomes a slaughterhouse when an evil sorcerer unleashes his monstrous sidekicks on intruders.

“A surreal blitz of ooze, slime, hoboes, failed birthday parties, Grim Reapers, explosions, zombies, people jumping through walls, and a guy with his own face silkscreened on his shirt.” - Joseph A. Ziemba, Bleeding Skull!

"Spookies is a mess, but it's a fun mess with some great atmosphere, memorable characters and genuinely impressive effects work." - Ian Jane, Rock! Shock! Pop!

"Spookies is the kind of film you have to just kick back with and meet on its own terms as a cinematic mutation from two different sets of creative minds a la Night Train to Terror, Caligula, and other patchwork oddities." - Nathaniel Thompson, Mondo Digital

After taking shelter in a spooky old mansion, a group of travelers discover a ouija board and decide to spend the night. But they soon learn that playing with the forces of black magic isn't fun and games, and it's not long before they're battling demonic creatures, shape shifters, and other forms of evil! Of all of the bizarre horror films made in the 1980s, Spookies easily ranks among the weirdest. The film became a fan favorite thanks to its expertly rendered creature effects and notorious for its bizarre production history.
