"An engrossing, poignantly observed and beautifully acted drama about love, life and the fragile art of moviegoing."—Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian

"A treasure worthy of its own magnificently-crumbling Art Deco Screens 1 and 2."—Fionnuala Halligan, Screen International

"Olivia Colman is simply one of the great actors of our time. So, it’s no shock then that she’s once again utterly superb."—Gregory Ellwood, The Playlist

Hilary (Olivia Colman) is the manager a faded old cinema in an English coastal town in the early 1980s struggling with her mental health, and Stephen (Micheal Ward) is a new employee who longs to escape this provincial town in which he faces daily adversity. The two find a sense of belonging through their unlikely and tender relationship and come to experience the healing power of music, cinema, and community. Academy Award-winning director and writer Sam Mendes (1917) directs this moving drama about the power of human connection during turbulent times. Oscar winning cinematographer Roger Deakins beautifully lenses this tribute to the movies.
